Tanjore Paintings are one of the traditional Paintings of India. It is characterized by the richness of gold foils on embossed gesso work, embedded with precious or semi precious stones and bright colours on a wooden plank base covered with tamarind paste. The themes of most paintings are Hindu gods, goddesses and saints. There are paintings with other religious subjects, birds, and mythological animals too. Artists of modern times have taken this old traditional art form to a different level wherein they have combined various styles and techniques to create mixed media. These days Tanjore paintings are done on mirrors, glass, canvas, mdf boxes etc., with only gold embossing work.
