Pattachitra is a general term for traditional, cloth-based scroll painting, based in the eastern Indian state, Odisha and parts of Bengal. In the Sanskrit language, “Patta” literally means “cloth” and “Chitra” means “picture”. Most of these paintings depict stories of Hindu deities.

Pattachitra, the traditional folk art found in the interior rural regions Bengal and Orrisa is based on the mythological stories. Each Patta
depicts a god or painting related to the daily activity of the people.
