Madhubani, a form of Indian folk art, originated from the Madhubani district in the Mithila region of Bihar. For centuries, the women of Mithila have practiced this art by decorating the walls of their houses with linear and vibrant designs depicting mythological deities and nature. These days Madhubani designs are seen on handmade paper, canvas, and fabric.
In this workshop, the participants will learn about the different styles of Madhubani paintings and create one of their own.

It will be a guided session, so you need not have any prior experience in painting.

All materials will be provided in the workshop.

What IS a raaga? How does one identify the raaga of a song/piece?
Would an understanding of the structure and technicalities of a Hindustani classical vocal performance help me appreciate it more?
What are gharanas?
If you have found yourself asking any of these questions, then this workshop has answers for you.
 
What: We will cover the above questions and more. We will start with the basic logic of the raga system, and go on to the various technicalities of Hindustani classical vocal performances. The workshop will be a balance of basic theory, demonstrations by the facilitator, and practice by the participants.
 
By Whom: Ranitendranath Tagore, aka Ranit, is a vocal artist proficient in various genres ranging from Hindustani Classical to popular cinematic music. His interest goes beyond the boundaries of language – he has performed in Bengali, Hindi, English, Marathi, and Tamil. In his earlier years, he has trained intensively under the tutelage of Sri Rama pada Nandi who was a disciple of many illustrious teachers including Sri Krishna Chandra Dey, who was himself mentor to artists like S D Burman and Manna Dey.
 
Ranit has performed solo on television and continues to perform formally and informally at invited events. He conducts music classes and workshops for singing enthusiasts looking to improve, explore different genres or just have a good time singing.

  • Use a blow torch
  • Prepare the base (a wood plaque) by roasting the surface
  • Brush & sand the roasted surface to make the wood grains prominent

Image Transfer is the art of transferring the print on to the surface.

Five Day Art Program – Introduction to Folk and Contemporary Art

Bloom & Grow is conducting a 5-day art program that includes an introduction to Indian folk as well as contemporary art forms.
The five-day program is designed for beginners and the following will be included:

1. Day 1 – Gond Art on Pots/Canvas 
Participants will learn Gond art form and its different methods will be explained in detail. Get familiar with Gond as an art form. Learn about its story, grammar, colors,  and special characteristics. The day will be about doing pretty pots with the Gond Art. Participants may also choose to do the art form on canvas.

2. Day 2 – Lippan Art
Mud and Mirror work (also known as Lippan Kaam) is a traditional craft of Kutch, Gujarat. Learn to work with clay and mirrors on canvas and create a beautiful art piece. What more, one can also do walls in Lippan.

3. Day 3 – Bottle Painting with Neon Colors

Learn to paint glass bottles with bright neon colors and use them as beautiful home deco

4. Day 4 – Impasto Painting
Impasto is a technique used in painting, where the paint is laid on an area of the surface in very thick layers so that brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. When dry, impasto provides texture. Layer up a canvas with vibrant tube paints, and use a brush to make your artwork pop.

5. Day 5 – Woodcut 
Woodcut is among the oldest printmaking techniques and continues to be a strong graphic tradition today. This workshop will introduce you to the tools and methods needed to allow you to carve your own block and print from your own relief woodblocks. You will explore carving techniques to obtain a range of texture, depth, and dramatic contrast to create strong visual statements in your artwork.
Participants will do woodcut on 2 coasters.

The art program is open to anyone who loves to learn and create and is over 10 years of age.
